GENERAL DUTIES: Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in
area(s) of
expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and
department
assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Chairperson's responsibilities include
developing and articulating departmental policies, reviewing and
assessing
departmental personnel, and establishing and fostering connections
between the
department and other academic programs and activities. This position
offers an
exceptional opportunity to participate in the intellectual and
institutional
development of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work within the City
University of New York. The successful candidate will teach related
courses,
maintain an active research record, be a mentor to junior faculty, and
advise
students.

The 204-acre landscaped campus of CSI, the largest in New York City,
is fully
accessible from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car
and public
transportation. Free transportation from Staten Island to Manhattan is
available. In addition to the 43 undergraduate and 15 master's degree
programs,
CSI participates in the doctoral programs of The City University
Graduate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or
equivalent as
noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully,
interest in
productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to
cooperate with
others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in sociology,
anthropology, social work or related field and be qualified for
appointment at
the rank of full professor. The successful candidate will be committed
to
inclusive excellence, have demonstrated capacity to direct a
department with
professional and traditional discipline programs, and offer a strong
publication, teaching and administrative record. Publication in peer
reviewed
journals is required and a record of extramural funding is preferred.
The area
of specialization is open. Applications from sociologists and
anthropologists
whose work has a global focus or whose work is in the critical
traditions of
sociology or anthropology; and from social workers whose expertise is
in health
or disability are of particular interest.

The Laboratory of Psychophysics at the Brain Mind Institute in
Lausanne, Switzerland, is searching for a PH.D. or Post-doctoral
student with a background in Psychophysics, TMS, EEG, fMRI or
Mathematical Modeling. PH.D. students will enroll in the Graduate
School of Neuroscience. The PH.D position is a four year appointment
and salary is approximately 3.000 CHF/month. The Post-doc position is
a two to three year appointment and salary is approximately 4.600 CHF/

The Brain Mind Institute is dedicated to research in the neurosciences

4) PhD Studentship in Natural Language Processing, Idiap Research
Institute, Martigny, Switzerland

Applications are invited for a PhD position in natural language
processing applied to machine translation, in the context of the Swiss
COMTIS project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation under
the Sinergia program. The successful candidate will study and
implement robust methods for semantic / pragmatic analysis, focusing
on the detection and disambiguation of cohesion markers in English and
French. The results will be used as input for statistical machine
translation software developed by the other partners of COMTIS, at the
University of Geneva.

Candidates should have a solid background in computer science, and
good knowledge of the natural language processing field, in particular
of statistical methods based on machine learning. They should have
excellent programming skills as well as good communication skills in
English and French. A strong academic record and a clear aptitude for
creative research will be priority selection criteria.

Funding is guaranteed for 3 years through a Swiss National Science
Foundation PhD studentship, with a possible extension for a fourth
year. The successful candidate will be registered as a PhD student in
the EPFL doctoral program, to which he/she will have to apply, with
support from Idiap.

until the position is filled. The appointment will start as soon as
the necessary work permits and documents are obtained, preferably on
