Dans le cadre des travaux réalisés par l'équipe Facteurs humains et Neuroergonomie de l'ISAE-Supaéro nous proposons un stage de Master 2 intitulé :

Software development tool for data acquisition and real-time streaming in flight safety research

Le ou la candidat(e) sera motivé(e) par la possibilité de créer un outil open source utilisable en Neurosciences et Neuroergonomie pour l'acquisition, la diffusion et la synchronisation de données physiologiques, comportementales et de paramètres de vol de simulateur. Il ou elle devra présenter des compétences solides en informatique. Le contrat de stage commencera au premier trimestre 2018 pour une durée de 6 mois et sera encadré par le Docteur Sébastien Scannella qui centralisera les candidatures (cv et lettre de motivation à sebastien.scannella [ chez ] isae.fr).

Software development tool for data acquisition and real-time streaming in flight safety research

To investigate the brain at work, Neuroergonomics uses physiological, electrophysiological and brain imaging measurements. Among them, Eye-tracking (E.T), functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), Electrocardiography (ECG) and Electroencephalography (EEG) are the most commonly used. In addition, the brain at work is analysed in different environments such as laboratories, flight simulators or real planes. Data coming either from different sensors and different experimental platforms are recorded in their own and different formats. Eventually, when combining various sensors in a specific environment, the experimenter has to synchronize the incoming data in order to analyse them. As a consequence, we have to spend relative long time to write down specific codes to deal with some of these issues and the synchronization is always made in a “non-conventional” way in most of our studies. This approach adds furthermore a risk in terms of reliability and reproducibility o!
f our experiments.
Some researchers from the University of California San Diego have however developed a tool that deals with all the above mentioned issues: the Lab Streaming Layer or LSL: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1at7yrcFW0).
However this tool has to be adapted to our working environment.

The main objective of this internship is to adapt the LSL to the demand of the Human Factors team to allow devices synchronization (flight simulator, EEG, ECG, eye tracking etc.), log and real-time streaming of the data and to develop a new framework which aims at facilitating the experimentation (i.e. a GUI for experiment settings).
The trainee will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and multidisciplinary team spanning from neuroscience to computer science, to be part of a larger project with other trainees and to design experiments inside the motion flight simulator of the DCAS. The final product of the internship will be an open source and valuable tool for the scientific community and will be published in international journals.
