summaryQuantum information theory quantifies the remarkable and surprising ways that quantum systems can be used to compute. Connecting the abstract theory to concrete physical systems often gives insight into a system’s physics; conversely, physical intuition can often inspire new ideas for information theory itself. This perspective has been particularly fruitful in quantum gravity, for which the essential question is to understand how gravitating systems store and process information. In this talk, we will explore how these two-way connections play out, in particular among quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, and gravitational holography. Time permitting, I will further discuss recent work that connects quantum error correction with areas of physics beyond gravity.
