summaryAccurate self monitoring of learning is the most important contribution cognitive psychology makes to educational practice. Self monitoring affects all aspects of our learning - how long to study, what items to spend more time on and which strategies are best to memorise the material. Have to improve the quality of self-monitoring to avoid illusions of knowing.  This talk will discuss the circumstances when self monitoring leads us astray, and gives us false confidence that we have learned material sufficiently well to take a test.
