| summary | There is a long standing dispute as to wether pluralities denote composite objects or simples.
In this paper we argue that none of these views can capture the range of phenomena that a theory of plurality has to account for.
We then propose a new account, reminiscent of structuralist ideas, showing that collectivizing adverbials, reciprocals and collective readings in general are caharcetrized by the existence of an order over the elements of the sets they denote. We build our explanation on the syntactic semantic interface proposed by Schwarzschild and define two new functions : Together and EachOther. |
