summary | Systems neuroscience has become a major focus of research into the neurobiological basis of different psychiatric disorders. In this talk, recent findings from functional neuroimaging and experimental neuropsychological studies both in healthy humans and in psychiatric patients will be presented. The results of these studies indicate that different networks of brain regions underlie specific cognitive processes like working memory, conflict detection and task-set configuration. Furthermore, patients with different psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder show, at least in part, differential patterns of dysfunctions of these brain mechanisms. |
