summaryStudies in the cognitive neurology of writing have been largely successful in constraining the functional architecture of writing.  Much less interest has been devoted to the anatomy of writing.  Recent and ongoing studies are focusing precisely on this issue.  They stress the role of the posterior-inferior structures of the left temporal lobe in representing orthographic information, that of left fronto-parieto-temporal perisylvian structures in implementing phoneme-grapheme conversion procedures, and the involvement of left fronto-parietal structures in orthographic working memory.
