| summary | How much of a realist can the physicalist be about qualia? Most physicalist philosophers of mind accept some form of realism about experiential qualia, but they do so in part by rejecting many traditional claims about qualia.
For example, many representationalists and functionalists accept the reality of qualia but do so only with respect to a restricted and deflationary view of qualia. Recent proposals about the self-reflexive nature of conscious mentality and the phenomenology of self and world offer interesting possibilities for developing a more robust form of physicalist qualia-realism, which I explore in this paper. |
