| summary | Developments in primate auditory neurophysiology have outlines at leat two candidate ’streams’ of sound processing in the primate brain - ’what’ and ’where’ systems. In this talk I will use data from functional neuroimaging of adult humans to address how we might use these concepts to understand the neural processing of speech in humans. I will try and identify evidence for hierarchical and parallel processing of speech in the human brain, and assess whether speech is processed as a sound and as an action. |
