summaryThe modelling of cancer provides an enormous mathematical challenge because of its inherent multi-scale nature. It is therefore important, not only to develop models at specific scales, but to find ways to integrate them. In this talk, I will present a model for cell dynamics in the colonic crypt which looks solely at the cell population level. I will then present a model looking at the biochemical scale of metabolite dynamics to try to explain the observation of cyclical hypoxia and acidosis. Finally, I will present a multiscale model for vascular tumour growth and address issues concerning the effects of heterogeneity, anti-angiogenesis treatments and production of factors such as VEG-F.
