| summary | What should be set and pre-organized in an adaptive visual machine which is supposed to learn face processing as efficiently as human adults do ?
One way for answering this question is to study how face processing develops in human infants. While doing so, it is osberved that characteristics of this development are difficult to disantengle despite they serve different developmental purposes : (i) Some of the characteristics help developing tools fort extracting multiple perceptual face invariants, multiple facial perceptual categories and prototypes, (ii) other characteristics help development of matchning mechanisms involved in recognizing that "another’ s face and body is like my own face and body" (and vice-versa), (iii) still other characteristics serve developping intraspecies bonding and the specific status of face and body. |
