summaryTo possess a subjective perspective in the full fledged (Kantian-Strawson) sense means to be able to ascribe experiences to oneself in an explicit way and this capacity seems to be bound to language abilities. Philosophers like Susan Hurley argue that the Kant-Strawson conception is much too demanding and that there are other, more primitive forms of subjective perspectives which can be spelled out on the grounds of non-conceptual forms of consciousness. In my talk I will discuss some problems concerning Hurleys view that the traditional conception of a subjective perspective overintellectualizes the mind.
