| summary | Several candidate dyslexia susceptibility genes have now been published. Remarkably, all these genes have roles in cerebral cortical development. We have been studying the developmental effects of these gene variants, and it is clear that many effects are not strictly genetic, but rather epigenetic, leading to rewiring of the brain and, most likely, to changing the brain’s functional capacity. I will review several examples of this phenomenon, including molecular, brain, and behavioral findings. |
