| summary | In bilingual language acquisition infants have to cope with a complex input that contains information relative to two different phonological systems. While the ability for language differentiation seems to be attained early in life, bilinguals’ specific adaptations regarding the organization of contrastive sound categories, before and after the building of the first lexicon, have been identified. In this talk, a review of the main results obtained in infant speech perception studies, comparing different bilingual populations, will be presented and the role of acoustic and distributional factors in bilinguals’ sound categorization processes in will be discussed. |
