| summary | All these apparently idiomatic complex expressions combine an additive semantics (like English also) and an exclusive one (like English even) plus apparently incompatible scalar requirements (like even vs. only). My current work presents a detailed analysis of how each implicature of each component of the relevant particles is predicted to affect the implicatures of the other from the perspective of an explicit model of presupposition projection. This analysis is shown to correctly account for the resulting meanings and presuppositions these particle clusters generate and, at the same time, their limited distribution. |
