summaryFor more than two decades, researchers have argued that young children do not understand mental states such as perceptions and beliefs. However, novel nonverbal tasks suggest that even infants seem to have the ability to predict peoples' behaviors on the basis of their mental states. A recent series of studies on the emergence of epistemic trust will be presented and the results of these studies will be discussed in the context of the current debate on early naive psychology.
