| summary | In my talk, I will show how using expertise (i.e. participants with acquired motor skills, as for example dancers) can help to understand neural and cognitive mechanism of action perception. I am particularly interested in three aspects of action perception: 1) how an observer's experience influences neural activity during observation of actions 2) how classical mechanisms for visual perception of familiar stimuli (i.e. configural vs local processing) are affected by motor/visual expertise when observing bodies and movements 3) how the neural and cognitive mechanisms involved interact with different types of perception. In particular, I will discuss how aesthetic judgements of movements might differ from simple visual perception. Moreover, I will show that these two types of perception are susceptible to an observer's personal experience, and specific neural correlates can be distinguished. |
