| summary | Research examining a variety of cognitive processes has shown that men tend to be more strongly lateralised than women. However, the reason for this difference is still a matter of debate. In this talk I will first present data examining sex differences in emotion lateralisation before moving on to discuss the possible reasons why male and female brains differ. First the distinction between sex differences and gender differences will be considered. Second data on the role of hormonal exposure on emotion lateralisation will be presented. While there is much evidence for there being a sex difference in emotion lateralisation, it seems like the difference may not be as simple as males vs. females. |
