| summary | When humans are exposed to distorted vision or to an external force field, their motor behavior is initially degraded, but gradually recovers withpractice. We investigate whether this adaptive improvement is achieved by one common or by multiple distortion-specific mechanisms, and whether it generalizes to unpracticed task categories and movement effectors. We also search for the brain areas where adaptation takes place, and evaluate adaptation deficits caused by neurological disease and old age. |
