summaryIn order to catch or hit a ball, swat a running insect, or just grasp an apple that is handed to you, you have to consider both when and where the interception will take place. But that is not all. Some aspects of how people move to intercept moving targets give the impression of resulting from judgment errors, or at least from people not making full use of all possible information. I will argue that people are actually just very flexible in how they intercept moving targets, and that this flexibility is important for their proficiency at interception. I will provide evidence that the movement strategy is tailored to deal with the most relevant constraints of the task at hand. Moreover I will discuss why it is essential to continuously improve predictions as the movement unfolds, and the limitations of such fast control during the movement. The emphasis will be on arm movements, but I will also briefly dwell on the need to pursue the moving target with ones eyes.
