| summary | The Mirror System Hypothesis suggests that the language-ready brain evolved through a series of stages starting with a monkey-like mirror system for grasping and progressing through an ape-like mirror system for imitation, and then a human mirror system that supports complex imitation and language. I will present the MNS2 model of the monkey mirror system for action recognition, and augmented competitive queuing, a model of opportunistic action scheduling. These will form the basis for an analysis of modeling goals for "simple imitation" in great apes, and "complex imitation" in humans, as part of an ongoing research effort investigating the evolution of the language-ready brain. |
