| summary | Dimensional metrology is an important part of any manufacturing system. It consists of distinct components and requires a large, diverse, and interconnected knowledge base. How to pass information seamlessly with minimal cost and minimal data loss between different components of a dimensional metrology system is a major issue that concerns software and hardware vendors, standard developers, and customers. This seminar first addresses the key
problems causing interoperability issue in dimensional metrology systems. Then, an integrated process planning system for machining and in-process measurement is proposed based on a newly developed STEP application protocol data model. STEP standards are the product of an international effort to achieve interoperbility for manufacturing system. The developed STEP application protocol data model aims at solving some of the crosscutting issues in dimensional metrology interoperability. |
