| summary | Eye gaze is among the most salient social stimuli, which signals direction of others’ attention and intention. In the current talk, I will review recent evidences of how eye gaze is processed spontaneously and affect social attention and cognition. Firstly, I will present how young infants use adult’s eye gaze to shift their own gaze and infer referential communication. Secondly, I will present how
children and adults with autism differs from typically developing individuals in the spontaneous use of observed eye gaze. Finally, I will present a tentative model about the mechanism underlying spontaneous gaze processing, and the basis of atypical gaze processing in autism. |
