| summary | The Self-Deploying Microglider projects aims at developing a novel biologically inspired robot of around 10grams that is able to jump, open its wings and perform goal directed gliding flight. This behavior is very powerful for energy efficient locomotion in rough terrain and is adopted by many animals such as desert locusts, gliding ants, gliding lizards or flying squirrels, just to mention a few. In this talk, I will give an overview on the challenges and implications of building such a robot and I will present the robotic protoypes that we have developed to date to address those challenges. |
