| summary | Direct numerical simulation is used to study flow over a roughness
element in a flat plate boundary layer at high speed. The roughness element
is modeled as a continuous bump with a height that is approximately half
the boundary-layer thickness. Simulations with a variety of Mach numbers
and wall temperatures have been run over a range of Reynolds numbers, and
the results are used to establish a criterion for turbulent breakdown. |
