| summary | Carnap’s philosophy of logic evolved in different ways between 1920 and 1970, but although it underwent several major changes and turns, it was guided by an enduring motivation: the constitution of a general framework for the whole of science, both formal and empirical. The concepts of model and interpretation are good witnesses of this situation. In this talk, I consider different definitions Carnap gave of these concepts, and different uses he made of them, at different periods of time, (often at odds with standard views), and I try to find out how they all fit in one and the same philosophical program. |
