summary | Spatial updating refers to mentally keeping track of a target that was initially seen, heard, or felt but for which there is no further perceptual access during translations and rotations of the body. The effortlessness with which we perform spatial updating belies its computational complexity. In my talk, I will discuss various examples of spatial updating, present a recent fMRI study on the the localization of updating in parietal cortex, discuss some of its functional characteristics, and then show how spatial updating can be used to measure perceived locations of targets and the perception of self-motion during passive transport. |
