| summary | Some theorists have argued that the arts are nothing more than an extension of non-art cognitive functions. This talk takes a different viewpoint, presenting neuroimaging evidence for 4 art-specific functions in human cognition and evolution. While these functions take advantage of general sensory and motor capacities, they are essentially art-specific. The talk will discuss brain areas that mediate these 4 functions, with a consideration of their potential novelty in the human brain. |
