summaryA social interaction deficit is one of the main features of schizophrenia, however, understanding it remains unclear. In view of previous research demonstrating that motor coordination of interacting people influences the success of social exchanges, we investigate in the current study whether social motor coordination could be impaired in schizophrenia and could help explain the social interaction. We examined unintentional and intentional social motor coordination of patients suffering from schizophrenia using a paradigm in which patients coordinate a hand-held pendulum with another participant. Our findings encourage further explorations of social motor coordination in schizophrenia and represents new perspectives for characterizing and improving social interactions of patients.
