| summary | While the example of the Balkans was the basis for Trubetzkoy's original conception of the Sprachbund, both the concept and the Balkans' relation to it has been the subject of considerable controversy and rethinking. In this talk, I shall discuss both continuities and discontinuities in language change in the Balkans, with a particular focus on the Republic of Macedonia and my recent fieldwork there. |
