summaryPotentially dangerous stimuli induce the emotion fear in humans and animals. Fear consists of behavioral and autonomic changes that ultimately support the survival of humans and animals in threatening situations. Notably, different neuropsychiatric disorders in humans such as depression or anxiety disorders are connected to pathologically increased fear. Our research goal is to understand the mechanisms underlying innate and learned fear. To this aim, we are using several behavioral paradigms in laboratory rodents combined pharmacological, genetic, electrophysiological, imaging and histological methods
