| summary | Recent advances in neural recording and analysis techniques are making it reality to read out a person's mental state from brain activity. In my laboratory, starting from classification-based decoding of subvoxel representations, we have proposed several new approaches to the decoding of detailed mental contents. We have particularly aimed at enabling the decoder to have numerous potential outputs, so that it could cover much of the whole mental space. In this talk, I will present how our methods have evolved from simple classification to modular, bidirectional, and other advanced models. I will also introduce a 'neural code converter' that transforms a person's brain activity to another person's, which could potentially be used for brain-to-brain communication. |
