| summary | Recently, a number of authors, including JC Beall & Julien Murzi, Bruno Whittle, Lionel Shapiro, and Hartry Field, have suggested that there is a paradox of logical validity. In short, the claim is that adding a logical validity predicate (or equivalent resources) to any theory that supports diagonalization leads to a variant of the Curry paradox. I will show that the extant derivations of the paradox in the literature are fallacious, and then provide a non-fallacious version of the paradox. The talk concludes with a discussion of what the amended paradox has to teach us about the logical status of the validity predicate. |
