summaryThe present talk critically discusses embodied views of language understanding according to which we comprehend language about perception and action by help of brain structures that are also involved in perception and action. Support for this view principally comes from observation of language-induced activity in sensory and motor structures of the brain. By providing new empirical data (behavior and brain imaging) that are difficult to explain within the embodiment frame I will discuss the potential role of this brain activity for the understanding of words.
