| summary | Our laboratory has had a long standing interest in stem cells starting with mouse embryonic stem cells as a basis for the development of gene targeting in the mouse to enable directed mutagenesis of the mouse. More recent efforts include using this technology to dissect the biology of adult stem cells in the intestine of the mouse. The small intestine provides an ideal organ system for analysis of stem cell biology because of its extremely rapid turnover. Invariably, once committed to such a journey the usefulness of iPS cells surfaces. My lecture will be divided between a discussion on the complexities of intestinal stem cell system and the technology of generating good iPS cells. |
