| summary | It has been shown that virtual reality can be successfully used to induce the illusion of body ownership and agency with respect to a virtual body that substitutes the own body. However, less attention has been paid to the consequences of this for attitudes and behaviour. Here we describe some experiments that have started to explore the attitudinal and behavioural correlates of the illusion of body ownership with respect to a body that has important differences from the own body.
