summaryThe role of the hippocampal formation in spatial representation and navigation is well-established. We are still learning about the anatomy and physiology of the different spatial cell types: place, head direction, grid and other spatially periodic cells, and how they fit together into an overall "cognitive map". Importantly, there are several computational models of how the spatial firing patterns of the different cell types are generated. This meeting brings together many of the leading hippocampal theoreticians and experimenters to discuss the latest developments in this exciting field.
