| summary | Perceptual consciousness refers to the ability to report, verbally or with an intended gesture, part of the information that is being processed in a given moment. Theoretical and empirical claims have started to emerge, highlighting the importance to disentangle the NCC from its pre-requisites and consequences. Attentional processes can push perceptual information closer to, and sometimes above, the conscious threshold, being one of the most important pre-requisites of conscious perception. In my research, I explore how different attentional systems modulate conscious perception, exploring the neural basis of the attention and consciousness interactions. I am also interested in examining how white matter microstructural properties of long-range white matter tracts are associated with the attention and consciousness behavioral and neural interactions. Our results demonstrate that each attentional system boosts conscious perception through a partially segregated brain network, while structural properties of white matter organization determine low-level cognitive processing. |
