summaryThe cerebellum has long been known to receive from and project to the cortex. However, the topography of these reciprocal connections have been, until recently, eluded to a proper mapping and thus targeted manipulations. We investigated this topic in rodents using the whisker system as a model of sensori-motor function. We demonstrated, by a combination of multiple tools, the existence of closed loops between the sensori-motor cortices and the cerebellar cortex, and showed the importance of these loops for the fine motor adjustments that take place in active sensory exploration of the environment.
