| summary | Myelinating oligodendrocytes derive from progenitor cells, whose ability to make myelin is dependent on the interplay between transcription and chromatin structure. The seminar will discuss nuclear changes underlying the acquisition of oligodendrocyte identity with an emphasis on histone modifications and DNA methylation. Because epigenetic changes reflect adaptation of cells to environmental stimuli, the effect of microscopic (i.e. mechanical forces) and macroscopic (including social experiences and fecal transplantation) changes in the environment will be presented. |
