| summary | In this presentation will first be reviewed the various developments implemented at the Center for Biomedical Imaging (CIBM, EPFL, Lausanne) in order to improve the performance of fMRI at UHF. Various studies performed on-site - on a 7T head-only Siemens scanner kin to NeuroSpin’s - will be presented to illustrate the full potential and benefits of high spatio-temporal fMRI. Faster sampling rates allow for a better characterization of fMRI signals, paving the way for efficient physiological signal removal and localized fMRI. More neuroscience-oriented applications make good use of the higher sensitivity and specifity available at 7T to probe the local hemodynamic response function, generate somatotopic/tonotopic maps at individual level or perform simultaneous EEG-fMRI. Non BOLD-based functional studies, such as functional MR Spectroscopy and/or perfusion fMRI, can also shed a new light on the brain response. |
