summaryAny time we open our eyes to explore our environment, a huge amount of information reaches our retina. Because of the limited capacity of sensory systems, a selective mechanism biasing perception in favor of behaviorally relevant stimuli is therefore necessary. This selective role is generally attributed to attention. Remarkably, some studies suggest that the attentional orienting could be modulated by motivational or emotional factors. However, the interplay between motivational factors, attentional deployment, and their underlying neurocircuitry remain unresolved. The aim of this project is to further understand the mechanisms and the neuro-anatomical correlates of the modulation of attentional orienting by reward reinforcement, both in healthy subjects and in brain-damaged patients suffering from neglect.
