summaryDespite the large amount of work done to study the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and the control of gaze trajectory, it remains unclear if the central nervous system controls either the eye and the head or the gaze and the head, and whether it uses a feedback or feed forward organization. Debates about this have been raging for two decades, but prior results have not provided an indisputable answer to this question. In this presentation, we address this question with a radically new approach by perturbing so-called “head-fixed” saccades with a passive rotation of the body.
