| summary | In this talk, I will outline some of the studies that show that children with
comprehension difficulties have particular problems with inference making, and
will discuss possible reasons why this might be the case. I will then consider
the direction of t
he link between inference skill and comprehension, and will
present evidence that supports a link from inference skill to comprehension.
Finally, I will consider the relations between different aspects of vocabulary
knowledge and inference skills, with re
ference to the Lexical Quality
Hypothesis. I will end by considering some of the implications for support for
comprehension and remediation of difficulties. |
