summaryThe aim of my talk is to discuss the role of cognitive tools such as notation and diagrams in mathematics. According to the general framework I propose, the use of these tools depends on the ability of diagramming, which allows us to recruit perception and action in view of more specifically inferential aims. I will present some examples taken from mathematics and discuss some possible directions for future research.
