summary | We rely on eye movements to gather high-resolution visual information about the world. Eye movements are often anticipatory, guided by our prior knowledge of an object's trajectory. I will show how smooth pursuit eye movements open a window on the kind of information used to anticipate not only a target's kinematics, but also its dynamics. I will argue that pursuit eye movements are sensitive to inferred friction between the target and a virtual ground and so is our perception when presented with ambiguous motion. In the same vein, I will show how our lifetime experience with biological motion is reflected in the pursuit eye movements directed to point-light-walkers. |
