detailsAuditory-Motor networks and Music: from Interaction and Reward to Brain Plasticity
summaryMusic is a complex system of auditory communication found in all human societies. Most people move spontaneously to music, and predictable musical structures drive perception, movement and pleasure. These phenomena suggest a strong interaction between the auditory and motor systems, as well as to networks implicated in musical reward. I will present work demonstrating the role of the dorsal stream in musical processing, and new experiments exploring the impact of predictability and reward on motor learning and the experience of musical groove.
