| summary | Initial success is often thought to result in a run of future successes; a phenomenon coined the Winner Effect. One reason posited for this effect is the psychological and motivational impact of success on later performance. I will present three studies investigating this possibility and show that a positive effect of success on later performance can be identified in both field and laboratory data. Using experimental data and applied theory, I will discuss the likely mechanisms behind this effect.
