summaryWe will share some of our experience/lesson and satisfaction/frustration in developing dynamic models with a range of complexities, and conducting scenario analyses to assist rapid response decision making in Canada and its Province of Ontario. Issues addressed include nearcasting/forecasting, final size calculation, contact pattern shifts by public health interventions, VoC emergence, optimal pathways towards recovery. The mathematical techniques vary by nature of the issues addressed. The forced marriage between mathematical science and public health decision making has resulted in substantial challenges for the development of mathematical research in an era of rapid behavioural changes
