summaryIn this talk I will present a novel analysis for futurates (sentences with a future-oriented interpretation without any morphological future marking). I will argue that traditional analyses based on modality cannot account for the properties of futurates and that these derive from the topicalization of an interval associated with a causative head. I will also show data from work on acquisition carried out in collaboration with Laura Domínguez, that supports the prediction of delayed acquisition that such a complex syntax presents.
